Mares and Colts
AQHA has formed a Ranching Council dedicated to the welfare and promotion of America's Ranch Horse through a selected group called: AQHA Heritage Breeders. Their purpose is "Highlighting the efforts of American Quarter Horse ranch breeders and their heritage to AQHA." Challenges or shows are specifically offered for horses bred by qualified breeders. "To become part of the Ranching Heritage Breeders, ranches must be members of AQHA and their ranch remudas must consist of Quarter Horses, which must be used primarily to work ranch cattle. The ranch must own at least five Quarter Horse mares that are used to produce the remuda, and the ranch must have received at least an AQHA 10-year breeder award." All of the horses that come out of the San Jon Ranch Horse program are eligible for these challenges. Below are pictures of past and current horses being shown in the AQHA Ranching Heritage events.
